The wind chimes are made in Odawara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, a casting production area with a history of over 800 years, while the wind chime stands are made in Shizuoka City, Shizuoka Prefecture, which has been certified as a traditional craft.
The wind chimes are made to have a soothing tone that gives a feeling of coolness. They are made by melting a specially blended brass at high temperatures and carefully pouring it into a mold. Each one is then painstakingly polished to give it a unique appearance.
Gold: A refreshing, high tone that will make you forget the hot days.
Black: A calming, low tone that invites you into the night as you enjoy the cool evening breeze.
They have also been called "narimono" (meaning "things that rise to prominence") since ancient times, and are treasured as interior decorations and objects, as talismans and lucky charms.
The wind chime stand is a traditional Suruga bamboo work, carefully crafted one by one by skilled artisans who cut thin, uniformly split bamboo into round pieces. The supple, smooth curves of bamboo bring a calming presence to everyday life and, over time, the color and luster improve, making it a beloved piece.
In the summer, it is placed near a well-ventilated window to feel cool, and in other seasons it is placed on a shelf in the entranceway to pray for good fortune, making it a truly representative Japanese seasonal item.
