【Katsushika Hokusai (1760–1849)】
A ukiyo-e artist of the late Edo period. He painted actor prints, beauty prints, and illustrated books, while also studying painting techniques from the Kano school, Tosa school, Rinpa school, Chinese styles, and Western styles. Through his compositional, powerful, and dynamic brushwork, he achieved a unique artistic realm. His influence extended as far as the French Impressionists. Major works include “Hokusai Manga,” “Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji,” and “Thousand Views of the Sea.”
