Hagari Soup Bowl, Wiped Lacquer, Red

Each piece is carefully crafted by artisans in Aizuwakamatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, which is famous for its historical background and lacquerware production.

Lacquerware, made from natural wood, has a longer history than ceramics, and its main feature is that it is light and thin, yet does not transfer heat to your hands even when hot food is placed inside.

The natural wood used for the base is carefully selected cork from Hokkaido, which is grown in the harsh cold.
Furthermore, the wood color that makes the most of the wood grain allows the wood's expression to be seen as it is, so only wood that has been carefully selected by the skilled craftsmen is used.

The shape is smooth and beautifully curved, fitting comfortably in the hand. The cup has a wide, curved edge that makes it easy to drink soup, a thin mouth, and a high base that fits comfortably in the fingers, making it even easier to hold.
Although it is the size of a standard soup bowl, it is also functional and has an appearance worthy of being a standard soup bowl.

The bottom is engraved with a motif of hands clasped together in prayer, as Japanese people say "itadakimasu" (thank you for the meal) and "gochisousama" (thank you for the meal) before and after meals, expressing gratitude to the ingredients and those who prepared the food.
