This cotton mosquito net handkerchief is woven and sewn in Nara Prefecture, a treasure trove of historical buildings and cultural assets.
Mosquito nets date back to the 8th century and were produced in large quantities during the Edo period in the 17th century. They are said to "let the wind through but keep the mosquitoes out," and have been valued as a way to prevent illness and save lives while sleeping.
Now, taking advantage of its excellent breathability, absorbency, and quick-drying properties, it has been reborn as a handkerchief that becomes softer and fluffier with each wash, becoming so soft you won't want to let it go.
The tassel at the end, made from bundled hemp thread, is shaped like a broom and is said to ward off evil spirits and attract good energy, and the makers hope that people will carry it around like a talisman and cherish it.
It's also reversible, so you can enjoy choosing the color of the surface to match your mood and style that day.
Perfect as a small gift, a thank you, or a wish for yourself.
If you fold it in thirds vertically and then in thirds horizontally, it will have a comfortable volume that fits perfectly in the palm of your hand.
Before first use, thoroughly remove any starch from the fabric with lukewarm water and then place in a laundry net before washing.
- After washing, gently reshape and dry to soften before using.
(Mosquito nets are woven using advanced techniques to create gaps in the weave, so glue is applied to the threads to make them stiff.)
-Due to its characteristics, the product will shrink by approximately 3 to 5 cm when washed, but the size has been designed taking this into consideration.
- Do not use chlorine bleach as it may cause discoloration.
