Characteristics of the production area

伊賀焼 Iga-yaki
Iga ware is pottery made in and around Iga city, Mie prefecture. The main production areas are around Makiyama and Maruhashira in Ayama district, Iga city, Mie prefecture, as well as Ueno city and Nabari city, and it uses clay from the Iga area, which has excellent fire resistance. Due to its high fire resistance, it is famous as a pottery suitable for clay pots and heat-resistant tableware.

Takashi Tanimoto
His grandfather, the late Mitsuo Tanimoto, aimed to revive the ancient Iga style, and his father, Kei Tanimoto, paved the way for modern Iga by incorporating pictorial elements. As the third generation, he inherited their blood and has mastered traditional Iga ware, but is also one of the leaders of the next generation of Iga, boldly adding his own unique touches to it.
